Questions

Does my statement get uploaded?
No. The statement is read inside your browser, so it never leaves your device. You can watch the network tab and see for yourself.
Which banks does it work with?
It's set up for HDFC, SBI, ICICI, Axis and Kotak statements, and reads other banks from their column headings: date, narration, withdrawal, deposit and balance.
How do I know it read my statement correctly?
It checks the arithmetic. On a statement, every balance is the one before it, minus what went out, plus what came in. Merji tests each row and tells you how many add up; any that don't are marked in the sheet.
My statement asks for a password. What do I type?
The one your bank set, which the email that came with the statement explains. It's often your customer ID or part of your name and date of birth. The password is used on your device and isn't kept.
Can it read a scanned or photographed statement?
Not yet. It needs a statement downloaded from your bank as a PDF, where the text can be selected.
What's in the Excel file?
A Transactions sheet with date, description, reference, debit, credit and balance, with dates and amounts as real Excel dates and numbers, plus a Summary sheet with the totals. You can choose CSV instead.
