Your files stay with you

Every free Merji tool runs inside your browser. Your PDFs and photos are processed on your own device and are never uploaded to our servers.

The site is built so that it can't send your files anywhere even by accident: the browser is told to block requests to any other website.

Voice commands work the same way. The microphone button only appears in browsers that can recognise speech on your device, and Merji asks them to do it there, never on a speech server. The microphone is on only while the button is lit, and what you say is never recorded or sent anywhere. While you speak, Merji's face follows how loud you are: that loudness is measured on your device too, and nothing else is kept. On an iPhone, where no browser can do this yet, you can use your keyboard's mic instead: that's Apple's dictation, not Merji's, and it follows your iPhone's own privacy settings.

Check it yourself

Every tool shows what it sent while it worked, for example “Uploaded: 0 bytes · Network requests: 0”. That line is counted as the tool runs, not written in: if anything were sent, it would show the size and turn red.

You don't have to take our word for it. In Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer:

  1. Open a tool, for example Merge PDF.
  2. Open the developer tools (F12, or ⌥ ⌘ I on a Mac) and choose the Network tab.
  3. Add your files and run the tool.
  4. Look at the requests that appear. You'll see Merji loading its own files at most, such as fonts it needs to draw a page, and nothing carrying your document.

Or the quickest test, on any phone or computer: open Merji once and wait for “Ready to work offline” on the homepage, turn on airplane mode, and use any tool. It works just the same, because it never needed the internet to handle your files.
