Do my files get uploaded?
No. The text is read inside your browser, so your file never leaves your device. The text reader itself is downloaded from Merji the first time you use it, then kept on your device.
What does it do to my PDF?
It adds the text it read as an invisible layer over each scanned page. The page looks exactly the same and keeps its quality, but you can now search it, select text and copy it. Pages that already have text are left alone.
Which languages can it read?
English, Hindi and Marathi. Pick the ones on your pages; choosing only what you need is faster and more accurate.
How accurate is it?
Clear, straight scans and printed text read well. Blurry photos, handwriting, stamps and tables read worse. Merji tells you how sure it was, so check names and numbers before you rely on them.
Why does the first use take longer?
Merji downloads its text reader (about 1.5 MB) and each language you choose (1.4 to 3 MB) once. After that they're kept on your device and it works offline.
Can I get just the text?
Yes. Choose Text file under Save as, and you'll get a .txt with the text from each page that was read.
