Do my files get uploaded?
No. The whole thing happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded. You can watch the network tab and see for yourself.
Is this real redaction, or just a black box on top?
Real redaction. Each page you box is redrawn as a flat image with the boxes burned in, and the old page content is dropped when the file is saved. There's nothing left underneath to copy or search.
What happens to the pages I redact?
They become images, so their text is no longer selectable. Pages you don't touch are left exactly as they were, with their text intact.
Can it find private details for me?
For Aadhaar and PAN numbers, use the Mask Aadhaar tool, which finds them automatically. This tool is for blacking out anything you choose by hand.
My PDF is password-protected. Can I redact it?
Unlock it first with the Unlock tool, then redact the result.
